Sustainability Committee

Our Sustainability Committee, which meets several times a year, acts as custodian for our sustainability strategy:

  • Reviewing performance against our 2020 Strategy and informing annual business objectives. 
  • Assessing emerging social, environmental and ethical issues to determine how material they are to the long term value of the business.
  • Considering social, environmental and ethical risks, and the mitigating actions that are in place.
  • Presenting any proposed changes in sustainability strategy to the Executive Committee for approval.

Our Sustainability Committee is Chaired by Chief Financial Officer, Lucinda Bell, and comprises representatives from across the business, including our sustainability team.

 

Sustainability Panel

Our Sustainability Panel brings together external and internal experts, who challenge our thinking and explore specific issues.

External members:

  • Anik Michaud, Group Director - Corporate Communications at Anglo American.
  • Barbara Spicer CBE, Chief Executive at Plus Dane.
  • Fiona Adshead, Chief Wellbeing Officer at Bupa.
  • Julian Walker-Palin, Managing Director at ETANTE Ltd.
  • Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).
 

Community Investment Committee

Our Community Investment Committee, which meets quarterly, approves all spend under the Community Investment Fund and reports to the Executive Committee annually. Our Executive Committee approves our Community Investment Fund budget, delivering on our Local Charter.

Our Community Investment Committee comprises:

  • Senior Retail Asset Manager – Edward Cree (Committee Chair).
  • Community Investment Executive – Joanne Hammond (Committee Secretary).
  • Director of Corporate Communications – Pip Wood.
  • Head of Broadgate Finance, Offices – Helen Wyeth.
  • Head of Community – Anna Devlet.
  • Head of Investment – Kelly Cleveland.
  • Head of Office Property Management, Offices – Catherine Thomas.

Our property management subsidiary Broadgate Estates operates its own Charity Committee.

Embedding sustainability

The annual incentive remuneration of Executive Directors is linked to achievement of our sustainability objectives, evidenced by inclusion on core Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) indices: DJSI, FTSE4Good and GRESB. For detail on our performance, see our Performance benchmarks.

Our induction for new employees includes an introduction to our approach to sustainability and we deliver all-employee briefings on sustainability. Our peer-led recognition programme, ‘Hats Off’ for employees, focuses on our company values and includes the Chairman’s Award for Citizenship.
